Concept

The Sicher im Kiez! workshops, delivered as project weeks in schools, integrate pupils with different cultural and educational backgrounds and reveal alternative ways of interaction. Sicher im Kiez! participants explore various methods of effective, non-violent forms of communication and problem solving and investigate the issue of violence through the use of specific sport modules, discussion modules and media.

Reactions
At the end of the Sicher im Kiez! week, when the pupils present their ideas to teachers, parents and all those interested in innovative youth development, the reactions are enthusiastic:

“The skills they have gained in presenting themselves – which they maybe already had, but were enhanced – that’s what I found very impressive. You can see that something is happening in the children’s minds, which then becomes visible through their behaviour. You just need to encourage this, bring it up again and again and strengthen the development.” Teacher Diana Mihov

And what do the children think?
„Whenever you pass a group of teenagers on the street you think: ‚Oh no, I hope they’re not going to hurt me‘. But the project week really helps you feel more secure.“ Paula

„Now I know I can manage things. That makes me feel more secure.“ Sina

Another boy says:
„For me, talking to everyone in the class has been most interesting, because now I know how to talk to others in order to argue less.“
